2003 "Old Town" Christmas Cruise

Saturday, December 20th was the date for this year's "Old Town" Christmas Cruise. Many of our club members really look forward to this fun cruise. Usually, the Christmas Cruise is the second most popular "Old Town" event. But, this night, it felt like a cold, crisp Detroit day. Not Orlando! The temperature in the day was in the 40's and dipped into the 30's during the cruise. Most normal people that would be cruis'n this day chose to stay home. 135 cars took part in the cruise.  Of these cars, 6 of these diehards were from our club.

We met at the Titusville Lowe's parking lot at 1 pm.  Bob Arnold, Michael & Katrina Cusmano, Jack Demarco, Ed Fitzpatrick, Jack & Donna Messemer and Tom Staggs were all ready to go. But, despite the temperature, Bob Arnold shamed Tom Staggs into going topless. After the Oldsmobile top was put down, we hit the interstate. "Boh" Bohannan and his friend brought up the rear with "Boh's" truck just in case he needed to stop and pick up some fallen parts.

The trip over was without incident and we pulled right in and parked together adjacent to the big free fall swing. The cars were cleaned quickly and several of us took off for lunch.

Most of the day consisted of looking at the other cars and the usual BS'n. But, mostly everyone tried to stay warm. Later in the day, Crystal Arnold and Sue Fitzpatrick made their way into the cruise. Poor Katrina showed up with her open toed shoes, but Crystal and Sue quickly took her over to the sock store for a needed purchase. Jack & Donna had their kids come over and they also met some friends from up north.

At 8 pm, we started our cars and began the formation for the cruise. Ed & Sue and Michael & Katrina got right on Tom's bumper since this was their first "Old Town" experience.

Just when the cruise began, Ed & Sue were approached by the cruise staff and were given a coveted  checkered flag. Yes, their first time there and they're picked as one of the night's special cruisers. Besides winning cash, a case of racing oil and other discounts, they really got the bragging rights for the evening. Other winners for the night were Jack DeMarco and Ed & Sue (again) for a door prize.

After the drawings, the convertible tops went up and we all paraded back home. It was a long day, but was well worth it!
