I just wanted the members to know that I took time from my car work to go to the Hooters Show last Saturday. It was hosted by FLA Roadsters. I rode over with Ray Pinto and saw Bill Craft and also Gerhard and Melissa there with their Vet. Looks like this one has potential to grow. Even though the food service was slow for this inagural event, next time Hooters will have plenty of help. The cars were really nice. Yes Dave Smart, they had cars there too. They had a Hooters girl pick out the "Best in Show" and awarded a nice plaque. She walked thru the cars occasionally to make sure she saw them all. Finally, a Pro Street Camaro (blown of course)was selected. Tough choice to make. There were many nice cars. My favorite was a '64 Ford Falcon (of course). It was really, really red and had immaculate interior. Sort of a resto-mod car with a dual overhead cam Mod motor and 5 speed from a late model Cobra. Next month, this Hooters Show will most likely be better. There are plenty of other "eateries" near by, so you won't have to wait in line and you will have a good selection to pick from. That's all for now. I recommend this show. Let's see how well it develops. Good Cruizin, Boh!

Just a quick note to let you know that the computer that contains all of our web site programs died on me yesterday. Fortunately, daily backups were made on an external hard drive. The old computer isn't worth fixing, so I'll be purchasing a replacement in a day or so. I don't know how long it will be before I can update the web site because of issues with the new Vista operating system. In the mean time, please add any articles you may have to our Bulletin Board and save the pic's for me. The web site doesn't run on the broken computer, but a main server in California. You shouldn't have any problems with this. You can still email me. I'll be using my old standby system. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks! Bob A.

I love it when a plan comes together ------ If you were not at our meeting Thursday there are 2 things you should know -- you were missed -- and it was another great meeting. One of the major pieces of business was the discussion regarding the IRF possibly having a car show and how we want to NOT be associated with a show that we did not produce.................. To accomplish this we decided that we will send a flyer to the folks who attended our show during the last 2 years. A discussion followed regarding how to do this by post card or by envelope and printed announcement. Thanks to Bob, Crystal, Jerry and Peewee - it can now be considered done. Thank you guys. I received the following up date from Bob this morning..................... I picked up the printing, stamps and other related materials for the Air Show flyers and the IRF mailing. The total cost was around $238.00. A little less than we thought. Going with the post cards turned out to be a real hassle. Staples couldn't print in that small of a size. We'd have to go to a professional printer which would take too much time. Or, someone could have stood at their home printer and fed 450 of them one at a time. So. I went with the half sheets as originally planned. I will give the Warbird flyers to Dave and I'll take the mailing materials over to Gerry Doucettes' once Crystal runs off the mailing list. Just keeping you informed, Bob

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to our members for frowarding the religious email. I did not take the time to look at the addresses I was forwarding it to, I just placed a check mark in all of the addresses in my address book. This will not happen again as I have taken the clubs email address out of my address book. This would not have happened if I had taken the time to read the addresses I was forwarding it to. Once angin, my sincere apology.

As you are aware Dave Smart is our lead for the show. Dave is also involved with the Valiant Air Command and due to a death in their ranks will be more involved than thought previously. For the times that Dave is tied up - I will be his sub. Since this is more a cruise in rather than a judged show, there is not a big demand for workers. However, Ed Fitzpatrick will be in charge of parking and will need some help and Joe Baldwin and Swanny will be in charge of the gate and will need a little help as well. Please contact them to offer your services this will be posted on the BB also - please notify any member not with PC the content

OK guys, I need some help!! Any body got an idea where to get a plastic gear that fits on the end of the ignition key tumblers? It pulls the small rod up to start the car. I am working on a 1970 Caddy Convert for a friend and I can't find this plastic gear. I did find one for a Chevy that had 5 teeth, but the one that is broken has 6 teeth. Does anyone have an idea as to who might have parts for a steering column for this Caddy. I have already exhausted most parts stores and some internet sites. No part number to use either. That would help. How about Eddie Chartier?? Thanks for any help you might have. Boh!! 433-0687

Yesterday one of our club members used our club mailing address to send out a religious based chain letter. Some of you contacted our web site email voicing your concerns. We would like to apologize to any of you that were offended. First of all, our web site and it's mailing system is intended for the purpose of performing club business and promoting our automotive hobby. It was never intended for the delivery of personal, religious and /or political statements. When you use members@vintagevehiclescarclub.com , your message is delivered to ALL members of the club simultaneously. Also, when one forwards these types of messages, messages that have been forwarded hundreds of times, it puts our web system at risk for the passage of ad and spy ware to all of our members. This Saturday (Feb 3) is the Indian River City United Methodist Churches benefit car show. The hours are 10AM til 3PM. You can come and go as you please. It is a freebee and they will give us hot dogs and sodas for lunch. Some of us are driving our show cars to the 8AM breakfast at the Outer Marker Restaurant at Space Coast Executive airport and departing from there directly to the show. Come on by if you can for the whole time or just part of the time. The church is on the south side of HWY 50 east of Barna and West of K-Mart. It is the 5th anniversary of their program to repair cars for people who can not afford to have the work done. We will be there to display our cars only. Thanx, Dave S.

THIS IS THE LETTER CONCERNING THE IRSC AND OUR CONTINUED HOSTING OF IT. NOTE GILES MALONE IS NOT IN CHARGE OF THE SHOW "HE WAS ONLY HELPING OUT LAST YEAR" i WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED JOHN N Marcia Gaedcke Titusville Chamber of Commerce 2000 So. Washington Titusville, FL 32780 cc: Brevard Productions Subject: Indian River Festival (IRF) and Vintage Vehicles (VV) Car show Since 1986, Vintage Vehicles has been in partnership with the Chamber for the Indian River Car show. Our original agreement with the Chamber was that we would advertise and host the show and in return, the Chamber would pay for the related car show expenses. As we all know from our previous years’ event, car shows are an important draw for any community event, and especially the IRF during the day time hours. Competition among the various car shows are tremendous during the IRF weekend. As an incentive to the car show participants, we must keep our registration fees down and keep the 'give-away's intact to draw the show cars to the IRF. However, within the last four years, at the request of the Chamber, our club has undertaken some expenses that were previously paid by the IRF. Below is the breakdown from the 2006 event of the cost of these newly acquired club expenses. Awards - $967.00 Event T-shirts - $2,226 Flyers - $140.00 Show field preparations - $400.00 Dash Plaques - $811.00 Portable Toilets - $365.00 Security - $200.00 Total of above expenses: $5109 An additional, unanticipated cost last year was thrust upon us the first day of the event. Our original agreement with Giles Malone was that with the show car registration fee, included the entry to the festival of the driver and one passenger per show car vehicle. The morning of the show, as the show cars were ariving, we were notified by Giles Malone on the spot that we were to charge an entry fee to passengers in the show vehicles. As all our flyers and advertisements, based on the original agreement with Giles, included with the entry fee the admission of the driver and one passenger, VV felt they could not at the last moment charge this additional cost to the show vehicles. For the record, it is standard procedure for car show entry fees to include more than just the driver's entry some shows they allow up to 4 people free entry. Unfortunately, this meant that VV had to pay the admission for one passenger in the show vehicles. This amounted to an unexpected cost which was contrary to our agreement prior to the show or the advertising. It might also be noted that while we were being watched to make sure we collected/paid the additional fees many attendees walked in without paying the admission at the same entrance gate that the show cars were entering. I would venture that was your price for not trusting a multi year partner, Vintage Vehicles. These expenses are over and above mentioned $5,100 in related expenses that VV pays. Additionally, VV has received an increase of $499 to our 2007 insurance invoice. This increase along with the above expenses brings our anticipated IRF Car Show expense to well over $9,000. On top of these new expenses, since 2005 when the beer booth revenue was taken away from VV, we experienced a loss of annual beer revenue of approximately $286.00. Sponsorships for our show have not kept up with these increasing expenses, and to maintain the IRF car show, VV has covered these added expenses. Unfortunately, our small non-profit club can no longer take the entire financial burden and risk of the show. Therefore, we respectfully request sponsorships in the amount $5,100 to cover the costs of these additional expenses. Please contract me as soon as possible regarding this request. The time is growing short to organize and advertise the 2007 show. I will follow this E-mail up with a mailed copy of the letter. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, John Novick, President Vintage Vehicles of Titusville Day work phone (321) 264-2808 Evening (321) 268-1784

The producer of the IRF has announced on his web sight the dates for the IRF. It will be held from April 19th through the 22nd. Their web sight is brevardproductions.com. Currently they are looking for vendors and have promo'd the on stage talent, midway, arts & crafts but not the car show. This is not unusal, in my opinion, because we were always self promoting. The letter to the chamber and the promoter will be E-Mailed and a hard copy sent later this month. john n

I contacted Nina Parker last night. She did not renew her membership due to her losing battle with cancer. Her spirtis are up and she really has a positive attitude. Fred is down this week moving things around and doing some repairs to their place in Mims. After Nina is gone, Fred will move to there place in Florida. Nina, at this time, wants to stay up in Vermont to be close to her family and doctors. Hope this answers the questions some club members had. I sure do wish it was better news. I did tell Nina to contact me if there is anything that the club could do for them. I will make it a "special" project to keep in touch with them from now on and will keep you posted.

DEAR CAR CLUB MEMBERS, Saturday night at "Titusnites" a few of our members were discussing finding out if any of you would be interested in taking a SHORT CRUISE TOGETHER AS A GROUP. It most likely would be in the late fall. It is the time of year you usally get a great deals because of hurricane season. Since we live in Florida, if they happen to cancel it, we would not be out airfare or have to find a hotel, and they would give us a discount on a futrue cruise. If you are interested, please post a response on the website or email me at Moonunit627@cfl.rr.com. Donna Messemer

Sorry Steve - BofA refers to the Bank of America - the one in question if we are talking Sat. Titusnights cruise in is - the branch located on US1 about 1/2 mile or less south of the show field. We usually gather on the parking lot on the north side.

We will get the Ol red 55 out to some meets in '07 I guarantee. Steve & Karen

Moisture? It would have to be from the humidity. It seems that heat may be causing it on this particular ECHLIN cap & rotor. I've never had a MOTORCRAFT cap fail like this. I used the ECHLIN because they're readily available and is supposed to be top of the line stuff. The Ford cap takes a couple of days and the shipping costs as much as the cap. I'll switch out the caps when it arrives and will wait and see if the problem crops up again. I'm leaning towards a poorly made "Mexican" product causing the problem. On a side note to all this, NAPA Auto Parts (Stradley's) isn't worth a crap as far as customer relations. "Electrical problem? That's your problem, not ours. Have someone PROVE to us that the part is defective." Yeah, that's what they said. Basically just showewd me the door. Bob A.

Wednesday January 03, 2007
11:57 AM -0500

Bob, how about moisture - the electricity needs some way to go from tower to tower and with the engine heating and cooling - maybe it is condensing? The car sits for a while and the warm air in the cap cools and turns from vapor to water - is there a "vent" hole in the cap? - if not maybe one is needed - so that the vapor can escape as a gas??? You said there is no damage to the cap so this is out but worth mentioning - a leaky advance diaphram cam allow gas vaports to enter the distributor. The points ark and boom the cap blows up - I have seen this a few times in the olden days BUT almost always the cap is no longer undamaged

Wednesday January 03, 2007
11:37 AM -0500

Carbon tracking is probably what's happenig. Question is why? Less than 300 miles is on the cap. The other ECHLIN distributer cap that did the same thing was only a month old. Someone suggested that the rotor is the culprit as far causing the carbon tracks. Sounds logical, but? Ideas? Bob A

Wednesday January 03, 2007

Bob, since you found no flaws in the cap, should I assume that the problem was carbon tracking between the towers?

Anyone out there ever have a problem with ECHLIN (NAPA)ignition parts? Went to Old Town Saturday and my T-bird wouldn't idle worth a damn when it came time for the cruise. Screwed around with the car this morning and found a bad distributer cap. A new one that I just installed prior to Daytona. This is the second time an ECHLIN cap has done this. No visual evidence of any damage or shorting. What causes this on a so called high quality part? I paid 25 bucks for the ECHLIN but I can buy a WELLS for $7 at discount auto. Probably Mexican made also. Suggestions?

John, The Ford tune up manual says the '78 351W should be set at 4 degrees BTDC. With today's lesser quality fuels, you may have to back it off to 2 degrees if it still pings under load. Your spark plug should be ARF-52 (Autolite I assume) set at .050" gap. Idle should be 650 RPM. Dave S.

Saturday December 23, 2006
11:57 PM -0500

John, The '78 model years were tuned for lead free gas. I have the info here and will dig it out tomorrow and post it. The vacuum gage system will work, as will putting timing into it until it pings under load and then back it off a degree or two. Dave S.

Saturday December 23, 2006
05:59 PM -0500

Thanks Bob - the vaccum gauge worked well on the 47 - but this time - Thanks to Steve A. - I was able to get it in the ball park with a light. BTW - the vacuum gauge trick works like this: engine warm RPMs at idle connect the gauge to MANIFOLD vacuum twist the dist. unitl you get the highest reading back it off just a touch.

12:19 PM -0500

John, That's a good question for someone out there. With my 312, I've found the original spec to be way off. They say it's because of the newer fuels. I now time the engine by using a vacuum gage instead of the timing light. Something Dave Smart suggested to me years ago. It works perfectly. Question is, will it work on a '78? I'd like to know just for future reference. Dave, got any suggestions? Bob A.

Specifically I am in search of a station wagon or any type of vehicle from this period which is somewhat like a station wagon - like a grand wagoneer or something. In the Orlando paper today was a story about Old Town. On last Saturday's cruise some of us were talking about a new Go Kart track. But, according to the paper, it's a high speed roller coaster that circles up to 150 feet and then drops you 90 degrees straight down. Hmmm. Sounds like something we'll all want to ride. Bob A.

Hi y'all. I know it's been awhile since a lot of you have heard from me, but I wanted to share with everyone what a great time I had at the Old Town Christmas Cruise Saturday. This was my first time taking the 442 out. I had almost forgotten what a smooth ride this old rag top is. It was great seeing the group. Thanks to Jack, Bob, Billy and Dave for the little repair under the hood. But then, what would a cruise be without Jack bending over under someone's hood. Anyway, I truly enjoyed myself and look forward to going again. I can hear Tom saying : "It's about time you got off your butt woman." See you at the Christmas Party. Connnie

12:33 PM -0500

Okay, here's the scoop on the Old Town Christmas Cruise. I contacted the cruise people there and, as we all know, they don't save parking spots. But, since were driving so far they've agreed to "set aside" an area for us. However, there's a catch. We MUST be in line, as a group, PRIOR to the gate opening at 1 PM. That means we'll LEAVE the PSJ & I-95 on ramp at 11:30 AM. For you new guys, please take note that the Saturday Cruise is for '72 an older vehicles. Also, remember to bring an unwrapped toy for your entrance donation. (Cash will also be accepted). And, don't forget your Christmas hat if you'd like. This is something our club is getting known for. The crazier, the better! DRESS WARM. Bob A.

John, two weeks ago three of us went over there (Saturday...'72 & older cars). We were there shortly after the gate opened and we had to park down towards the end of trophy row. Even then, the three of us couldn't park together without some later shuffling. A group? Wow. That's tough. I asked one of the Cruise guys there and he highly suggests were in line WAY BEFORE the gate opens at 1PM. This Cruise is huge when the weather is nice, not to mention the holiday cruise. As far as a meeting place the PSJ on-ramp seems to work well. But, what about the tolls? With the new improvements to the booths on 417 the epass holders down slow at all, but the others must now exit and pay. That'll be tough to stay together as a large group. I'll call the old town people towards the end of the week for further suggestions. What we really need is a car count. So please, anyone planning on going, let us know ASAP here on the BB. Thanks, Bob A.

Monday November 20, 2006

Okay people. We're at war with Adobe. Last Friday our club subscription came due for our PDF conversion service. I renewed (100 bucks a year). After renewing I noticed the service of combining several documents into one is no longer available with their online subscription. Yeah, they tell you AFTER you subscribe. I called and bitched. This feature is a MUST. They said to simply cancel and buy the program. I told the rag head Okay. Then I asked for a credit for the $100 they made an hour earlier. Mohamahad 'Ricky' Dipityshit said "it'd unrefundably impussyible." Without calling in Connie Rice to negotiate this, I'm screwed for any of our web updates. Adobe won't give in on any of this. Stay tuned and be patient. This is obviously going to cost us...money for a program and/or bail money for me. Damn I HATE computers! Bob Arnold

PLANES, TRAINS AND CARS AUTO SHOW. The Valiant Air Command will host it's planes, trains and car show on Saturday, 28 October 2006 from 10AM until 3PM. Those who bring a show car to the event will get in free and have access to the show and the museum. You can come and go anytime during the show. A group of us are meeting at McDonald's on US-1 in Titusville at about 8:15 and will leave from there at about 9:00 and parade to the show. This will be an intersting event and I urge you all to bring your show car and wear your club T-shirts. Food will be available from vendors. The show site is located at the VAC museum just off of SR 405 on the northeast side of the Space Coast Executive Airport (TICO). This could be our opportunity to become re-involved with a car show at the Warbird Airshow in the spring. IF you have any questions call Dave Smart at 264-3267.
