November 24 through 27

Wow! What a great Thanksgiving weekend. Our club turned out in big numbers to enjoy the great weather, a super swap meet and, of course, good friends.
Thanksgiving day started out with 7 die hards meeting up at the Mims rest area at 6:30 AM. They reported an enjoyable trip to the speedway in the crisp morning air. A quick run through the swap area was made by most of these guys before putting their cars to rest around noon. Just in time to get back home for that turkey dinner.
Friday morning we had 21 cars parked in our prime area. We found that our club parking was expanded to 6 pads for five cars each. Also, our area had the only infield speaker located directly in the center of our pads. This made easy work for listening to our favorite tunes spun by Bruce & Jennifer Johnston. Friday was said to have the largest spectator count of the Turkey Run. Several of our members won door prizes. Tom Staggs and Joe Baldwin both won $50 cash.
Saturday was our club's BIG day. We had two groups cruising up I-95 and US 1. 26 cars were in attendance. Later in the day, everyone wandered over to the stage area where a huge crowd was waiting for the door prizes. This was the big part of the day. Sue Fitzpatrick did a great job in presenting our charity drive check in the amount of $1,600 to Rick Finzer, chairman of the Turkey Run. It was the most EVER raised by a car club and was very much appreciated by the Daytona Beach Street Rods for our helping hand. A few more members won some door prizes. But our luckiest member was Jack Valerio who walked away with this year's give away engine. A value of over $4,000. Way to go Jack!
The Saturday night activities were attended by Bob Arnold, Jack Messemer and Tom Staggs. It was really entertaining watching the hot rod teeter totter contest, slow drags and the flame throwing competition. This is something our club needs to enter. Let's plan on this for next year.
Sunday morning we had 10 cars displayed. Most of us in attendance were getting pretty tired as we reluctantly walked over for the day's door prizes. We all left for home through the old NASCAR tunnel in the late afternoon.
