Daytona Turkey Run, November 23 - 26, 2006

Another year, another Turkey Run. This show just keeps getting larger. Over 5,700 show cars entered the speedway on this windy weekend. Our club had a total of 26 cars participating this year.

The Thursday diehards did their thing on Thanksgiving morning. Meeting at the Mims rest area at 8 AM, they cruised up to Daytona and found the club parking area. After covering their cars, they all commuted back home in time for the family thing.

Both Friday and Saturday mornings we had two separate groups cruising to the speedway. One group taking the quick route up the interstate and the other group cruising up US 1 for breakfast. Others elected to cruise up on their own. Which ever way was chosen, no problems were reported.

Once again, Friday seemed to have the largest spectator count. Saturday was the big day for the show cars. We had 21 cars there on Friday. Saturday our club had 23 in attendance. Only nine of our members decided to do Sunday. To borrow a slogan from the Hot Rod power tour, the following "Long Haulers"  participated on all four days: Steve Amato, Jack & Donna Messemer, Jack DeMarco, and Bob & Crystal Arnold. Other members attending throughout the weekend were Pat Conner, Mike & Linda Rhone, Ed & Sue Fitzpatrick, Terry Brandeberry, Cal Tinsley, Gerry & PeeWee Doucette, Dave Perry, Gary & Lynn Wozniak, Ken Saul, John & Linda Novick, Bernard & Margaret Coveney, Jack & Esther Valerio, Billy Craft, Joe Baldwin, Bob Shearer, Chuck & Kathy Garrison, Ron & Jeanne Forte, Paul Hughes, Dave Smart & Ruth Miller, Boh Bohannan and Orrin & Jill Swanson. Other members in attendance were James Berry, Ed & Amy Nenninger, Gerhard & Mellissa Bunge, Mike & Carolynn Schuler, Steve Tremblay and Robert Kelley. Our bad luck award goes to Marv & Carolynn Imes. They were unable to attend due to a break down of their little green beast.

Saturday was a very special day for the club. Under the leadership of Sue Fitzpatrick, the club donated $1,300 to the Central Florida 2nd Harvest Food Bank. Daytona Beach Street Rods, with their wholesale connections, will turn our money in to 8,125 pounds of food. That's over 4 tons of much needed food! And, this was all raised by our individual members. Are we good or what! Oh yes, this was over twice as much donated by any other car club. How cool. Thanks Sue and all of you that donated so generously.

Next year promises to be even better for this great event. Hope to see us all out there!
