Vintage Vehicles of Florida, Inc
Minutes of the June 21, 2007 Meeting – Business Meeting
CALLED TO ORDER at 7:01 p.m. by John Novick, President – 31 members present
President’s Report/Comments: John Novick
Do we have a quorum[1]? Secretary answers, “Yes, we do.”
There were no new members, but we had a guest. The club was introduced to “G” and Mellissa’s new daughter
of three weeks, Johanna Bunge.
Remember Saturday we have a Benefit Cruise for Tyler Roberts at Fox Lake. There was a discussion about
when to meet so the club members could park together. It was determined to meet at 10:00 a.m. at Lowes.
Pat Conner spoke about what to expect and what times things were to happen at the Benefit.
Also, Susan Loftis informed the club with some of the background on the Roberts family.
On Friday, June 15th or Saturday, June 16th, I heard a rumor that the Turkey Rod Run’s additional fee would be $15.00, added on to the entry fee of $35.00. The additional fee started out at $1.00, then went to $2.00, then $5.00, and it’s rumored it is going to $15.00 this year. To hold our spot I authorized the club to make a check for $450.00, a check fee and next day delivery added an additional $16.25, making the grand total of $466.25 from our operating account. I didn’t have time to contact any board members, but informed them after the fact.
Joe Baldwin made a motion to approve the $466.25 deposit for the Turkey Rod Run, Dave Smart seconded the motion, and it passed by everyone except for Marv Imes.
Ed Fitzpatrick suggested that we reevaluate the amount of money we donate to the Daytona Street Rod’s Charity. Bob Arnold said before we jump the gun, we have to consider the main thing, “The Parking”. Other members had suggestions on how to handle the rumored increase.
Jack Messemer, told the club, how we get our special spot at the Turkey Rod Run.
Bob Arnold told the club about where we used to park “out in the back forty”, really it was the 4th Turn.
A lottery for all car clubs is given for choice spots.

May 17, 2007 minutes were read, motion to accept was made by Billy Craft, Kim Simon seconded and
motion was passed.
Sunshine Lady Report: Bobbi Jo Brandeberry
No Report.
Website Report: Bob Arnold
Not much to report because he had company visiting.
HE NEEDS ARTICLES, IF WE WANT THE WEB PAGE TO CONTINUE.
OLD BUSINESS:
CLUB LICENSE PLATES: Dave Smart still has a few plates left, they are $20.00
TURKEY ROD RUN: Bob talk about the registration process and securing a parking spot. There is a problem; the club has outgrown the number of parking spots.
How do we figure out who gets the spots, some of the suggestions are having a lottery, sharing unused days, or splitting the number of spots to 15/15, first 15 go to active, participating members the second half are for the lottery.
How do we treat the members we only see when it is Turkey Rod Run time?
Bill Simon stated that because he has been before that he would let the new people go in his place. He also mentioned that if two members shared the same spot, each could pick out the days that they wanted to come.
Don Loftis asked about getting some parking spots in the club area along with the RV spots we have. Bob said it has been rumored that there will be no parking outside the RV area anymore, because some of the car clubs have taken advantage of club parking area.
Don Loftis asked about putting your car in the Car Corral and Bob informed him that it would cost $80.00 to do that.
Bob asked the club members what to do with the members that haven’t attended one meeting and apply for a spot at the Turkey Rod Run. He wanted to know if he could deep six it. Jack Messemer suggested that they go to the bottom of the pile. Linda Novick suggested that they could go into a lottery for the unused days.
Kim Simon said that the members that do not come to our meetings or any other of our functions should be put to the bottom of the pile and the participating members should be put first.
We have had many suggestions; John Novick said that the board will come back in a future meeting with the final solution.
Ed Fitzpatrick suggested that we have a point system. You earn a point for attending each meeting, if you donate you get a point, and if you work for the club you get a point. Bill Simon told Ed they tried it many years ago and it was a disaster.
TOM STAGGS FUND: John Novick asked what the fund is called; it is the “Tom Staggs Memorial Fund”. John said he was a little confused thinking that we needed hundreds of dollars, when in fact, we need thousands of dollars.
Bob Arnold stated that he was made chairman of the fund by our past president, Jack Messemer. Bob told us that he and Tom were cruising buddies and they talked about setting up this fund before he died suddenly. Tom was a conservative that wanted a fund that really helped the future mechanic, not a giveaway program that wasn’t taken seriously.
Bob said that he sat down with Tom’s widow, Connie and his oldest son, Matt and they asked Bob how could they keep his name out there for as long as possible, hopefully forever.
Bob went and talked to a financial advisor at a bank and she said, the best thing to do with the fund is to set up an endowment fund. What we need is to add to the fund we already started.
John Novick will appoint a board of directors to help the chairman, Bob Arnold come up with all the particulars to get the fund running. When the endowment starts running the fund goes after the person who received the money once he starts working, to repay what they were given. This way the fund keeps renewing itself forever and ever.
Don Loftis motioned to create a 501C endowment for the Tom Staggs Memorial Fund, Dave Smart seconded and the motioned passed.
Mike Kelly of the “Cruise News” during the Beach Blast asked how they could help us raise money for the Tom Staggs Memorial Fund. This is a good place to start with all the contacts he has.
Jack Messemer suggested that we take the 30 spaces at the Turkey Rod Run and sell them and put the money in the Tom Staggs Memorial Fund. Ed Fitzpatrick said why don’t we take some of the donation to charity and put it toward the Tom Staggs Memorial Fund.
Jack Messemer suggested we take $5000 or $4000 of the money in the Car Club Account and put it toward the Tom Staggs Memorial Fund. Bill Simon said no because we may need the money for other reason, such as the Warbird Show.
CLUB MEETING: We filled Beef O’Brady’s tonight, and this is without our snowbirds, so it looks like we need to find a bigger meeting place.
Please help us find a larger place.
NEW BUSINESS:
CAR THEFT: Pat Connors let the club know that there is someone stealing cars in the North Mims area.
BEACH BLAST: Mike Kelly wanted Bob Arnold to thank the members who helped, Dave Smart, Billy Craft, Ed Fitzpatrick, and Jack Messemer.
Meeting Adjourned – 8:25 p.m.
